Assisting the complainant in the process

The person might be scared to complain and may even ask that they not be identified to the person complaining.

Protecting against victimisation is essential - for both parties

You need to reassure the person that the club takes victimisation seriously and will act on any concerns about this.

Remaining anonymous might not be possible

You need to explain that they may not be able to remain anonymous. Whether you decide to name the complainant will depend on the nature of the complaint and the seriousness of it. If it's a less serious issue the name of the complainant may not be important and the focus should be on sorting the matter out. For more serious complaints principles of natural justice should apply with the person being complained about knowing the name of the person complaining. The club Committee may also need to be informed of the complaint as it might require a review of policies and practices, even if the matter can be sorted out informally.
