Officials - What to do now
As an official you are responsible for ensuring the game is played safely and within the rules of your sport.
- Don’t ignore it – let the players know that such behaviour is not within the rules and spirit of the game.
- Talk to the coach during a break and ask that they remind their players about appropriate behaviour.
- Take action as specified in your sport’s rules (e.g., provide a warning, send the player off the field or report the behaviour).
- Follow your sport’s guidelines for responding to allegations of racial harassment or vilification.
- Include the player’s complaint on your match report.
