Officials - What to do now |

|
As an umpire or official you are responsible for ensuring that the rules of the game are followed in a safe environment free from harassment and abuse. In this role, you should have minimal contact with children or young people in the course of undertaking your duties.
- Understand that the physical contact with a child or young person that legitimately occurs during your umpiring duties may be misconstrued or misunderstood by a player, parent or observer.
- Recognise that touching young players (e.g., by placing a hand on the shoulder, patting them on the back) can result in suspicion and parental concern, particularly if the behaviour occurs repeatedly or appears to focus on particular children.
- Realise that touching young children is not an appropriate way of relating to them and that gratuitous or unnecessary physical contact may prompt questions about your intentions.
- Know that a child that is injured or in distress should be attended to by their parent, guardian or coach, unless immediate action is required to prevent or deal with an injury.
