Officials - What to do now

As an official you are responsible for ensuring the game is played safely and within the rules of your sport.

If you witness racial harassment or vilification

• Don’t ignore it – let the players know that such behaviour is not within the rules and spirit of the game.
• Talk to the coach during a break and ask that they remind their players about appropriate behaviour.
• Take action as specified in your sport’s rules (e.g., provide a warning, send the player off the field or report the behaviour).

If a player complains about racial harassment or vilification but you don’t observe the behaviour

• Follow your sport’s guidelines for responding to allegations of racial harassment or vilification.
• Include the player’s complaint on your match report.
