Players - What to do now
As a participant you are responsible for conducting yourself in an appropriate, respectful, non discriminatory manner consistent with your club’s Code of Behaviour. Any unlawful discrimination or vilification that impacts on you or others must be addressed.
If you believe you are being discriminated against or vilified
- Notify the umpire about the behaviour if the harassment occurs during a game.
- Approach your coach or Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) for advice or assistance if the behaviour concerns your own team members .
- Access a copy of the club’s Member Protection policy to be informed about how your sport deals with complaints.
- Decide what action you want to take (e.g., asking your coach to speak to the person you are complaining about, making a written complaint to the club or referring your complaint to an anti-discrimination agency).
- Expect your complaint to be taken seriously, acted upon promptly and for you to be protected from victimisation.

If someone alleges that you are being racist
- Reflect on your behaviour. Can you identify anything you have said or done that would cause someone to think this way? Might you have inadvertently given offence? If so, take the first opportunity to apologise.
- Co-operate in any inquiry into the incident.
- Do not harass or threaten the person who has complained about you.
