Coaches - What to do next
As a coach you are in a position of leadership and you are expected do all you can to ensure that disability discrimination does not have a place within your team.
Consider preventative measures such as:
- Ensuring you are aware of the disability discrimination policies and procedures of the club.
- Role modelling appropriate behaviours.
- Ensuring you are approachable and accessible to participants if they have concerns. If you have concerns about the safety of any participant, talk to them and seek guidance from the club.
- Seeking practical ways to include people with disability in both the sport and the club. Talk to the participants and always keep an open mind about modifying and adapting activities.
- Attending any relevant training to increase your knowledge about inclusive coaching practices.
- Reporting any behaviours to the management committee or Member Protection Information Officer that are of concern within the team.
