Officials - What to do now

As an official you are responsible for providing a safe environment for players and participants that is free from discrimination, harassment and abuse. Seek clarification from your sport/governing body about how to include people that request flexibility with rules and equipment on the basis of impairment and try to apply these policies consistently and fairly.

If you are faced with the situation of changing rules and equipment to ensure inclusion, follow relevant policies and try to be consistent in the way you apply them.

Keep an open mind and do what is possible to be inclusive. However, if you have genuine concerns for the safety of participants you can:

• Check with your state or national sporting organisation and /or state department of sport & recreation for guidance on the subject
• Visit the Australian Sports Commission website that sets out information about Officials, Sport for People With Disability and Ethics in Sport and/or
• Visit the Australian Human Rights Commission website.
