Administrators - What to do next

  • Support people from all religions and cultural backgrounds to play sport.
  • Develop and implement a Member Protection Policy and make sure it includes information on religious discrimination and clearly state that all forms of discrimination and harassment are unacceptable.
  • Raise the issue of religious inclusion with the committee and have them consider such supportive measures as a flexible uniform policy (e.g., wearing of the hijab, long pants/long sleeved shirts).
  • Publicise the club’s commitment to fair and tolerant practices whenever and wherever your can (e.g., via newsletters, websites and the club’s Code of Behaviour).
  • Consider appointing a person who will act as a support to new team members and liaise with their families. If relevant this person should be given information about cultural and religious beliefs and practices to assist them in communicating in culturally appropriate ways.
  • Make sure people are aware of the club’s complaint handling process.
