Officials - What to do now
As an official you are responsible for providing a safe environment where players are free from discrimination, harassment and abuse. You are also required to understand and apply your sport’s uniform regulations.
- Make sure you’re familiar with your sport’s uniform policy. Seek guidance from your sport if necessary.
- Recognise that different religions have different dress requirements (e.g., the wearing of the hijab and clothing that covers the body).
- Consider whether the uniform worn by the individual is in the team’s colours and likely to pose a threat to other players (e.g., Is the hijab fastened with Velcro or with pins?). If it’s not a risk, then there’s no reason to disallow it.
- Be inclusive wherever possible.
