Administrators - What to do next
- Provide strong, positive leadership and develop a culture of inclusion and safety in your club.
- Model fair and respectful behaviour at all times.
- Know the facts about homosexuality and issues such as HIV transmission. Stop speculation and misinformation within your club.
- Be proactive by organising an information session for coaches, administrators and officials about sexuality issues and invite a panel of homosexual people to talk about their experiences in sport.
- Raise awareness by displaying anti-discrimination/anti-homophobia material in your club rooms.
- Make sure that your club has a Member Protection Policy that covers sexuality discrimination and that members are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
- Change club policies and practices that exclude homosexual people from club activities (e.g., invite ‘partners’ rather than ‘husbands/wives’ to social events, include same sex partners as affiliate members).
- Select players, coaches, officials and administrators on merit. Focus on the skills and attributes required for the role.
- Don’t be a bystander. Take action against homophobic harassment, abuse and violence as soon as it occurs.
- Act promptly and without bias on any concerns or complaints about sexuality discrimination.
