Administrators - What to do next

Ensure your club has adopted and promoted a Member Protection Policy (or similar) that covers disability discrimination and harassment (including infectious diseases).

• Develop and promote an Infectious Diseases policy and/or the Blood Rule policy. This should include:
  • information about infectious diseases and how they are transmitted;
  • instructions that:
    • a player who is bleeding or has blood on their clothing leave  the field immediately
    • spilt blood be cleaned up straight away
    • bleeding to be stopped quickly using safe handling techniques; and
    • all blood and body fluids to be regarded as potentially infectious.
  • the recommendation that personal equipment and toiletries not be shared
  • information on health and safety in change rooms.
    
• Ensure Infectious Diseases/Blood Rule and Member Protection Policies are understood and consistently applied. For example:
  • conduct education sessions with coaches and officials 
  • promote policies and complaint handling processes to all participants.
