Officials - What to do now

As an official you are responsible for understanding the Infectious Diseases Policy/Blood Rules Policy and consistently applying the procedures to any player who is bleeding.

• Ensure you are familiar with your sports Blood Rule/Infectious Diseases policy and that you understand preventive strategies for lowering the risk of transmitting blood-borne diseases.
• Consistently enforce the policy at all times during on field play
• Stop the game if you see anyone bleeding and make sure the person:
  • leaves the field immediately
  • does not return until the bleeding has stopped
  • blood stained clothes have been removed and replaced.
• Use safe handling techniques if you need to attend to someone who is bleeding.
• Assume that all blood and bodily fluids are infectious and ensure all spills are cleaned up immediately.
