Administrators - What to do next

  • Prepare a brochure or statement that provides women with general information about:
    • exercise and involvement in sport during pregnancy
    • potential risks associated with your sport
    • the importance of seeking medical advice about the nature, frequency and type of involvement.
  • Contact Sports Medicine Australia for current information.
  • Review your policies and procedures to ensure pregnant women aren’t inadvertently discriminated against (e.g., requiring a woman to disclose her pregnancy).
  • Consider obtaining legal advice on developing a legal disclaimer to indemnify the club against future claims for injury and ensure that attention is drawn to the disclaimer at registration. Be aware this document only applies to the woman, not her unborn child.
