Celebrate Social Inclusion Week and White Ribbon Day
There are two very important events to celebrate this week: Social Inclusion Week (19-27 November), which aims to help Australians feel valued and to give people the opportunity to participate fully in society; and White Ribbon Day (25 November), Australia's campaign to stop violence against women.
The messages in these campaigns are closely aligned to the Play by the Rules ethos to promote inclusive, safe and fair participation in sport for all.
Following are a range of quotes on the importance of safe, fair and inclusive sport from 'Our Champions':
"There's just no excuse for sexism or bad behaviour in sport. Everyone involved in the club, male or female, should feel safe and supported at all times". David Pocock (Australian Wallabies rugby player)
"No matter who you are, or where you're from there's just no place in sport for intolerance, racism, sexism or discrimination of any kind". Kyah Simon (Matildas Australian Women's Soccer Team player)
". . . one of the key aspects of sport is the whole concept of a 'level playing field". Michael Milton (Gold Medal winning Paralympic skier and cyclist)
