Risk Management

A fair and safe environment gives sport and recreation organisations many advantages, such as the ability to:

  • enhance their reputation and public image
  • increase interest in the sport and the organisation
  • attract greater participation
  • obtain more financial support
  • enable better sporting outcomes
  • achieve higher morale, more commitment and accountability, and
  • provide better-quality experiences for participants.

Developing and implementing appropriate risk management strategies is an integral part of creating a fair and safe environment, and it is the responsibility of all people involved in governing sport and recreation clubs and groups.

Risk management means being aware of the potential for something to go wrong and taking steps to remove or minimise the risk.

Risk management also helps clubs to avoid potential legal and other costs resulting from a complaint of discrimination, harassment or abuse.
