Between March and the end of May 2015 Play by the Rules joined forces with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA), the National Integrity of Sport Unit (NISU), the Australian Sports Commission and all state and territory departments of sport and recreation to bring the Safeguarding the Integrity of Sport forums to seven venues across the country. The roadshow came about because of the growing concern and increasing evidence that there are serious threats to the integrity of sport at a grassroots to sub-elite level from issues such as doping, match-fixing and the use of supplements, including image enhancing substances.
The forums featured presentations from experts from ASADA and NISU on the latest developments in areas of anti-doping and match-fixing. Dr Gary Slater from the University of the Sunshine Coast also spoke about the many issues impacting on the integrity of sport through the use of supplements. The presentations were delivered within the context of an ethical decision-making framework, giving participants a practical framework and tool to use that is useable across a broad range of integrity related issues.
Feedback from the series of forums has been extremely positive and we are currently looking at ways to further support grassroots sport understand and deal with these issues.
