Our commitment to LGBTQ+ Inclusion

At Play by the Rules, we aim to help sport clubs and associations provide a safe, welcoming environment for all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and Pansexual (LGBTQ+) peoples. We acknowledge the discrimination that LGBTQ+ people have faced – and continue to face – in Australian sport.
We respect the right of every individual to participate in sport free from all forms of harrassment, discrimination and abuse including that which is based on their sexuality or gender identity.
We are working towards a world where LGBTQ+ peoples are free to exist as themselves in sport.
Our contribution to this mission is to help sport clubs and associations follow the legal and policy rules that apply to them. This includes requirements to provide inclusive and safe spaces for all LGBTQ+ people, to call out homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, to educate club members on LGBTQ+ inclusion.
At Play by the Rules we:
- Listen and learn by regularly engaging with LGBTQ+ awareness and allyship training.
- Promote IDAHOBIT and inclusive awareness day activities and events for clubs and associations to engage with.
- Engage and collaborate with experts and organisations like Pride in Sport and Proud 2 Play to develop inclusion resources.
