Play by the Rules is running a free, online Community of Practice for MPIOs in Australian sport.
Three highly interactive, practical sessions are offered in 2026. Open to MPIOs from clubs, associations and peak bodies in all states and territories, the sessions are about building the confidence, knowledge and capability of MPIOs to contribute to safer and more inclusive grassroots sport environments.
All sessions will be held on Microsoft Teams and run from 7:30pm - 8.30pm Australian Eastern Daylight/Standard time.
Session 1 – How to be an effective MPIO
Tuesday 31 March
This session will provide a refresher on the role of an MPIO. Using activities drawn from real world scenarios, we’ll unpack what is and isn’t the role of an MPIO, how to be an effective MPIO, and when to refer people for further action.
Specifically, you’ll walk away more confidence to:
- Recognise what should be managed through formal complaints processes vs dealing with them informally
- Understand the boundaries of the MPIO role
- Provide accurate advice to members and participants about their rights and options regarding complaints
