Pride in Sport – Program Overview

Logo for Pride in Sport

Pride in Sport is Australia’s national not-for-profit program working to make sport more inclusive for LGBTQ+ people at all levels. We support sporting codes, clubs, and peak bodies to create safer, more welcoming environments for players, coaches, staff, volunteers, and fans of all sexualities and genders.

Launched in 2016, Pride in Sport provides hands-on support, strategic guidance, and tailored education, helping sport organisations build inclusive cultures and embed best-practice policies and practices. From community grassroots teams to elite professional clubs, we work with sport to make inclusion more than a buzzword - it becomes a part of everyday operations.

Backed by lived experience, expert advice, and strong partnerships across the sports and health sectors, Pride in Sport champions meaningful change that uplifts entire communities. Whether it’s through events, advocacy, training, or collaboration - we are proud to stand alongside sport as a trusted partner on their inclusion journey.

Our message is simple: everyone deserves to belong in sport. Inclusion saves lives, and it starts with action.

Pride in Sport Index (PSI) – Inclusion Benchmarking Tool

Pride in Sport Index logo

The Pride in Sport Index (PSI) is Australia’s and the worlds only benchmarking tool for LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport, helping organisations measure, improve, and celebrate their work in creating safe and welcoming environments for people of diverse sexualities and genders.

Developed in collaboration with sport and health experts including the Australian Sports Commission and Australian Human Rights Commission, the PSI is more than an assessment - it’s a roadmap. It provides clear guidance on policies, training, leadership, engagement, and visibility, helping organisations of all sizes strengthen their inclusion efforts. Participation in the PSI also supports eligibility for the annual Australian Pride in Sport Awards, recognising best practice across the country.

Used by all organisation types across the sport and recreation sector, the PSI promotes transparency, accountability, and growth. It highlights the importance of embedding LGBTQ+ inclusion as a core part of an organisation’s values, not just during Pride rounds, but year-round.

Backed by the team at Pride in Sport and ACON, PSI participants receive support to build inclusive systems that work in practice, not just on paper.

Inclusion isn’t a trend—it’s essential. The PSI helps sport get it right.
