Summer sports – your prep starts now

Spring isn’t too far away, and the warm weather brings new registrations. Winter is prep time for summer season clubs; a chance to lay the foundations for a safe and inclusive experience for returning and new participants, parents and volunteers.

Get your pre-season prep sorted with easy templates and some winning tips:

  • Review and share our tips for committee members and getting your committee organised.
  • Use our plug ‘n’ play diversity, equity and inclusion policy template to update or create a policy to suit your club or association.
  • Update your code of conduct. We have a series of templates you can customise for specific roles or combine into a general code for all members.
  • Train a new Member Protection Information Officer if you don’t already have one or ask club leaders to complete or refresh their child safeguarding knowledge.
  • Complete the Dealing with it in the moment: anti-racism in community sport online course and consider how you would handle discrimination if it occurs this season.

Get proactive! Reach out to your league or state contacts to get the latest on your sports’ member protection, safeguarding children and young people and complaints policies.

Winter sports – stay the course!

Training numbers might dip as people struggle for consistency, but social events and looming end of season functions will be keeping you busy. Maybe you’re in line for finals, and you’re keeping it fun and positive, no matter the results.

Some things to keep you on top of your game post-season could include:

  • Review our complaint handling tips.
  • Share tips with parents on how they can be positive role models for kids.
  • Plan ahead with our tips for the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Read over the eSafety Sports Hub resources in case any online safety issues arise.

Bonus round: Start a submission for the Pride in Sport Index and take your inclusion game to the next level.
