In my experience when an MPIO feels pressured or the sport sits the complaint handling obligations are in their lap. I often say to them that you need to have a really clear discussion with the decision makers and the executives about the difference in the roles. The more that your executive team and group understand member protection and the role of an MPIO and the subsequent roles of handling complaints the better equipped the sport will be a most likely resource the two very distinct roles separately as opposed to having it all within the one portfolio.
