Broadcaster and sports journalist Sam Lane hosted the #DISA2022 Forum on Championing Diversity and Inclusion through the Sport Media this year on 14 September. The panel featured Australian sport and media giants, including:

  • Tracey Holmes – Broadcaster and sports journalist

  • Ian Roberts – Former NRL player and LGBTQIA+ campaigner
  • Assmaah Helal – Social entrepreneur and advocate
  • Judith O’Hearn OAM – Paralympic Gold Medalist and educator

The panel discussed topics at the forefront of diversity and inclusion in sport, including the Manly Sea Eagles Pride Jersey incident, how Australian sports media compares to our international counterparts, what it means to see yourself represented in sport and sports media, and what we can all do to improve the state of play for the next generation.

The Forum features an Acknowledgement of Country from elite boxer Marissa Williamson Pohlman, and a closing statement from Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) Youth Leader Mohamed Semra.

The DISA Forum was supported by Play by the Rules and the Centre for Multicultural Youth, and the Diversity and Inclusion in Sport Alliance is made possible through a collaboration of Government and Non-Government organisations across Australia.
